Responding to local industry need for welders, 冈本视频 Marinette will now offer students two scheduling options to study welding starting this fall.
“Our full-time day schedule is always popular, but we are looking to meet the needs of all students by adding a part-time schedule that starts later in the day and runs into the evening,” said Joe Draves, associate dean of trades and engineering for 冈本视频.
Students will be able to earn a technical diploma and various certificates along the way. Major welding processes used by industry--stick, TIG, MIG, and flux core—are covered, as well as blueprint reading, metallurgy, and other courses.
“We continue to see a high demand for trained welders and a continual increase in the number of welding jobs in Marinette and surrounding communities,” said Tom Topper, 冈本视频 welding instructor. “It’s always gratifying to prepare students for the well-paying, benefit-eligible jobs I know are in our region and this part-time schedule will help do just that.”
Many Marinette and Menominee area industries rely on welders and the anticipated growth of jobs will continue to remain strong in the coming years. “We know that a full-time schedule meets the needs of many of our students and future welders. But we also know that we need to be flexible because students’ lives are busy,” said Jennifer Flatt, dean of 冈本视频 Marinette. “We are always looking for ways to meet the needs of students, whether that is through eight-week courses, certificates, or scheduling options.”
Students can get a jump start on the fall schedule by taking a Material Cutting Applications class in the evenings starting June 7. This class allows students to enter the part-time program during any eight-week session throughout the 2021-2022 academic year.
