Course Description

10-515-181 RESPIRATORY/CARDIO DIAGNOSTICS ...advanced invasive and noninvasive diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures including pulmonary function, hemodynamics and rescue medicine. Emphasis is placed on promotion of evidence-based practice using established clinical practice guidelines and published research for its relevance to patient care. (Prerequisites: 10-515-173, Respiratory Pharmacology; 10-515-176, Respiratory Disease; 10-515-113, Respiratory Life Support)

Follow quality assurance on respiratory therapy equipment
Evaluate data obtained from (invasive and noninvasive) hemodynamic monitoring
Interpret advanced ECG rhythm strips
Perform simple spirometry
Interpret a complete pulmonary function test
Explain therapist's role in assisting the physician during special procedures (thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, cardioversion)
Recommend treatment based on 6 minute walk (exercise)
