Course Description
10-515-181 RESPIRATORY/CARDIO DIAGNOSTICS ...advanced invasive and noninvasive diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures including pulmonary function, hemodynamics and rescue medicine. Emphasis is placed on promotion of evidence-based practice using established clinical practice guidelines and published research for its relevance to patient care. (Prerequisites: 10-515-173, Respiratory Pharmacology; 10-515-176, Respiratory Disease; 10-515-113, Respiratory Life Support)

- Interpret data from invasive procedures to assess oxygenation and ventilation
- Follow quality assurance on respiratory therapy equipment
- Evaluate data obtained from (invasive and noninvasive) hemodynamic monitoring

- Perform simple spirometry
- Interpret a complete pulmonary function test
- Explain therapist's role in assisting the physician during special procedures (thoracentesis, bronchoscopy, cardioversion)
- Recommend treatment based on 6 minute walk (exercise)
