Transition Services for High School Students with Disabilities
Getting the Support You Need at 冈本视频
It鈥檚 important to know that the support you receive in college may be slightly different than what you鈥檝e experienced in high school.
In college we don鈥檛 use IEPs. Instead, we work with you to put reasonable accommodations in place. Accommodation is a word we use to describe the extra academic supports you are eligible for based on your disability.
Some examples of accommodations might include:
- Less-distraction testing environment or private rooms.
- Double time for tests.
- Having your test read to you by a computer.
- Receiving audio books.
- Or other necessary equipment you might need such as a different chair, a digital recorder, magnifying items, and sound amplifying items such as a stethoscope or FM system.
How to Receive Accommodations
Another important thing to know about your college experience is that students must self-identify as needing accommodations. You can do this easily! You'll simply:
- Get connected to Disability Services.
Please call our office at 920-498-6904 or email at disability.services@nwtc.edu to get connected to a case manager. - Send us a copy of your IEP or 504 plan.
An IEP or a 504 plan in high school will be used as a reference to see what worked for you in high school so that we can build upon that as you transition to college. Please email a copy to disability.services@nwtc.edu or fax it to 920-491-3792.
High School Visits
Are you a counselor, teacher, or administrator at a high school in the 冈本视频 district? Our case managers can visit your school to provide information about 冈本视频 programs, services, and expectations to your students who have disabilities.
Visits include these activities:
- Disability Services informational presentations.
- Information on available accommodations.
- Information on available support services.
- Admissions procedures.
- Financial aid/scholarships.
- Program preparation planning.
