Machinist Apprenticeship

Machinists can transform blocks of metal into intricate parts. They set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, CNC machining centers, and CNC turning centers.

In this apprenticeship, you will get hands-on training with a highly skilled journeyman who will be your mentor. You will also take classes at 冈本视频 to learn safety, theory, processes, and concepts of the machining trade.

What are the requirements?

Apprenticeship Requirements

  • Entry requirements vary by employer 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Physically able to perform trade 
  • Applicants apply directly to participating employers 


What will I learn?

Your training and instruction will cover the theory and skills needed to operate all the basic machinery found in a well-equipped machine shop: 

  • Lathes 
  • Drilling machines 
  • Metal cutting saws 
  • Vertical and horizontal milling machines  
  • Surface and cylindrical grinders 
  • Computer controlled machine tools 

You will learn to: 

  • Produce precision parts and instruments 
  • Fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments 
  • Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines 
  • Apply knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures 
Online

Classes wherever you have an internet connection. 

  • An in-person career experience, such as an internship, practicum, or credit for prior learning, may be required.
  • Some online courses may be held at specific dates/times.
Day
Classes between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Evening
Classes between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Weekend
A combination of online classes and Saturday and/or Sunday classes.
Full-time
12 or more credits per term.
Part-time
Fewer than 12 credits per term.
