Emergency Medical Technician - Technical Diploma

Emergency Medical Technician prepares the student for the rigors to perform emergency patient care and basic life support in compliance with Wisconsin scope of practice. Students will perform patient care, including the transport of injured and ill patients to hospital emergency departments. Graduates with the EMT Technical Diploma will have the potential for employment as an Emergency Medical Technician. Successful completion of the EMT program prepares graduates for the National Registry certification exams required for WI DHS EMT licensure and entrance into the Advanced EMT and Paramedic programs. Ambulance services in Wisconsin are volunteer, private, fire-based or hospital-based. This program is nationally accredited through the committee on accreditation of educational programs for EMS professionals under the auspices of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs.

Requirements for Program Entry

  • EMT program application
  • Completed background check through Viewpoint
  • Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body, condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance, at times, more than 125 pounds

  • Curriculum Note: Students must earn a "C" or higher in all 10-531-XXX courses. A student who withdraws or receives a grade lower than a “C” in a program course may apply for re-entry into the program. Consideration for re-entry will be at the discretion of the re-entry team.
  • Successful program completion prepares and entitles the student to take the state license examination. A graduate is licensed only after successful completion of the licensing examination and application for a state license
