20-801-212 ETHNIC LITERATURE ...explores questions of identity within various cultural contexts. Writers represent one or more ethnic groups working in one or more genres of literature with emphasis on developments in voice, genre, and style over chronological periods and geographical zones. Individual sections may vary in particular emphasis. (Prerequisite: 10-801-136, English Composition I OR 10-801-195, Written Communication with “C” or better)

- Analyze authorial relationships with different audiences, both inside and outside the author’s cultural group.
- Explore the concept of privilege as depicted in texts.
- Examine cultural and political issues involved in literary canon formation.
